We lost to Los Amigos 12-1 in a game that was a lot closer than the score would tell. We played a great first half for a change, and our play in the second half was a little sloppier as we got tired, but it was still quite good. We lacked a finishing touch (i guess that's obvious, given the score), but we also came close a lot, or else we shot right at the goalie (i don't think he had a difficult save all game).

On the defensive side, we held them off pretty well for a while, which led to me being lulled into a false sense of security, which made me lazy, which led to their first goal (i must put an end to first goals caused by mental softness, it's becoming a damn trend). Then they had 4 goals that were total flukes. I made a couple more mental mistakes (coming out too early, getting distracted), but i also made a lot of good saves.

My conditioning still isn't good enough; i need to be able to hop right back on my feet as soon as i go down. Right now, i just kneel and hope that my defense comes to rescue me. The best news is that we had pho a couple of hours before the game, and after the game i felt great, so i'll try to make it a habit.

You lost to a team that calls itself Los Amigos?! For shame, for shame.

Thank god there weren't only three of them, or we would seriously need to plan a pickup-and-baseball-bat roadtrip.

How's your finger holding up?

Still a bit sore and swollen. Heck, my other ringfinger is still sore from being only slightly tweaked three weeks ago.

I wonder if there's something goalies can wear on their hands to protect their fingers. Gloves or tape maybe. Gosh, it must be stressful to be a goalie. I was always a wing player; I'd have felt too much pressure (& guilt if we lost) if I'd been a goalie. As for conditioning, maybe you could start some regular jogging. Sorry to be posting well after you made this entry. I haven't been online that much lately. As for goalies, when I played team sports in high school, the goalie happened to always be the best athlete on the team for some reason. (I was surprised they didn't choose offensive positions to focus on scoring, but the two goalies I remember were indeed our best basketball and volleyball players, and were amazing to watch play soccer as well.)

Oh, i definitely wear gloves. I should probably tape my joints. Being a goalie isn't especially stressful, except when your defense isn't. Defending, that is. It does seem to take a special temperament to be a goalie (like the closer in baseball).

I'm surprised that the best athletes were the goalies; you usually want your best athletes out on the field, running around.

Those two goalies were really good athletes (they were the players I looked up to), but there were a few other good players too, who were put in scoring positions, including me. The rest of this comment was going to be about me, me, me and my sports past, so I'll put that in my own journal rather than bore everyone.
