The most intense song, hands down, i have ever heard, is Tool's "The Grudge", an 8+ minute opus written mainly in (i suspect) 10/8. I feel empty after i listen to it... Maynard's 24-second scream punctuates the track, and then...

... then the song wraps up as you fall through concussive waves of sound. Then it ends. And you hit the floor.

Simply harrowing... then imagine how i felt the first time i played Lateralus as i realized that, after that ordeal, i still had the rest of it to listen to...
