Often, when i listen to Michael Hedges, i feel this intense sense of loss over never having had the chance to see him live. It's almost as if i've lost a family member.
I feel a sense of loss that he was taken from us so early. His later recordings really show him straining at the limited Windham Hill emotional palette, stretching out and seeing where his amazing skills could take him. He could have been one of the greats, and instead we're left with a handful of records that reveal the astonishing vocabulary of an artist who was just figuring out what he had to say.
