No, this isn't about Mark Foley.  This is about Dan Hinkle, the commisioner of the Fairfax County Youth Football League, who demanded of the coaches of the South County Raptors that his son play every down on offense.  When the coaches decided to actually make their own decisions in the final game of the season, Hinkle fired them.  The boys on the team decided they would only play for their fired coaches and thus did not participate in the playoffs.

Young men of Fairfax County: you rule.  Dan Hinkle: i hope you get testicular torsion.  Thanks for the story go to [livejournal.com profile] tuesmornqb.

UPDATE: A "special bowl game" was arranged for the Raptors. I guess that's scant consolation. The league officials are supposedly considering whether to fire Hinkle. The facts seem pretty damn clear; the guy should be thrown out.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like Hinkle learned any lessons from this experience like those kids did, it probably just further cemented the power trip hes on. Yet another case of people corrupting perfectly good power.

Yeah, even if he's fired, i doubt he'll learn anything from this. His son will probably think he's a dick for a long time.

Well "firing" him would be harder than it seems. He is the commissioner of the South County Youth association so they would have to vote him out and judging from the lack of intervention from parents and board members he probably donates a sizable amount to the team. This is just speculation of course but usually these overly controlling parents have a good deal of money invested in their kids activities. Bureaucracy makes my soul hurt.

The world, it's smaller every day...

I know about this because, well, I LIVE in Fairfax, but I didn't expect it would make its way anywhere else as news. I don't whether to be shocked or amused.

Reminds me of Colonel Gaddaffi, who insisted that the coach of the national team pick his son for all matches. To be fair, his son was actually a half-decent player, who spent a few years playing for a team in (IIRC) Serie B in Italy. I wonder how Mr. Hinkle would feel about being compared to America's favourite Libyan?
