Nearly a year ago, i wrote,

And worst of all, our country will continue to suffer under the uncaring eye of the Bush administration and nobody will even notice because, hey, don't you know there's a war going on?

[...]

[It's] plain now, as it was four years ago, that he is a poor leader.
Well, people noticed.  But that hasn't changed the way the Bush administration works, as the terrible story of Michael Brown has given way to even more cronyism.  And that's really the point: nothing has changed.  Every time something horrible has come out of the White House, i've said, "I'm not surprised."  Then why am i still paying attention to what happens?  It's not changing anything, and it's not doing me any favors.

There was a time when i didn't want to shield myself from the news, but that's no longer the case.  It's eating me up, especially when i read about anyone defending the indefensible.  So i've thrown all of my political RSS feeds off my reading filter (well, except for the comics, because those i don't take seriously).  Whatever happens in the world of politics between now and midterm elections, i don't want to know about it.  I don't need to know about it.  Odds are that nothing that happens in the next 13½ months will be any improvement over what's happened in the past almost five years.  I'm tired of being so negative, and i know some of you are tired of it, too.  So fuck it.  Come Nov 8 2006, i'll turn my eyes back to the political landscape, to see if America is any better off.

Until then, well, i can worry about more pertinent things, like why the retarded Department of Justice is cockblocking the acquisition of my employer and thereby causing an unprecedented lack of industry in my department, not to mention a vague sense of dread.

I feel that come election time people are so trying so hard to recon the recent past that I need to make up my own mind on what they did or did not do.

Of course this is in Belgium, where there are more then 2 choices and the government actually is pretty sane at the moment. Being in the USA I do not think I would need to make up my mind come election time, nor would I have problems remembering the issues of the NeoCons, but how do you prevent being lied to by the media like during the Clinton years? (the numerous affairs and the killing of a partner that all turned out to be pure lies) Not that the media here are saints, still I like to make my own conclusions.

I might need to duck out for a little while, too, just to keep the rage from making me say stupid crazy things in private. (You don't see the worst of it on LJ.)

Also, I've been reading a lot of contentious identity-politics flamewars full of self-righteous 20-year-old hipsters excoriating everyone who doesn't live like a self-righteous 20-year-old hipster and arguing with Flintstone patriarchalists and dittohead fratboy flamebaiters, and they're just making me feel like crap for being inadequate according to all sides, since I have neither a personal friendship with Jesus nor the special kind of orgasms that are ideologically better than the normal variety. And a lot of really choice blistering end-of-the-world rants by people who swiped Hunter S. Thompson's prose style and are scarily eager to see society disintegrate so they can participate in mass rioting. This stuff can be diverting in small doses but you get too much of it and the bees in your brain start buzzing, buzzing, buzzing like you took too many Sudafed and your sleep schedule is really off.

who swiped Hunter S. Thompson's prose style

Not so much of a swipe as just rubbed their faces in it and hoped osmosis would do the job, really.

I can't match the pure, virgin, spring fresh hate of Matt McIrvin, but: yeah. Between the government and its apologists and the crap going on in my own pitiful life, I've become screamingly negative, and I hate it. It's paralyzing. Unfortunately, Smallville, where I have to deal with all these stroke-inducing estate issues, is a teeny backwater conservative whitebread Bush-lovin' town; it just adds insult to injury.

After years of trying to be tolerant, fear of the current government has made me as intolerant as those I despise. Now that's a fun sentence. All I can do is ignore what happens, but the minute I start to feel better, maybe start having fun, I feel guilty.

So yeah. I'll stop projecting. For what it's worth, I haven't seen much political stuff on your journal since the last time you said you weren't talking about politics.

I guess it depends on what you're used to, but what i've had here has usually been fairly bilious (but then, it could be no other way).

You guys should be enjoying this brave new world order!

When has a government ever been so committed to showing that there is clearly no need for a federal government that would be engaged in the public welfare of the state!

The current fiscal policy means that soon we will have to outsource the DOD and hire the Iranians to win ThatIraqiThingiePoo, and the Indians to win ThatAfghaniThingiePoo, and the PLA from China will be our bulwark against the North Korean Armed Aggression!

You folks REALLY REALLY need to look on the upside of the current deconstructionist policies!

Some will recall back to january 2001, when the typical panicky wanking liberal was all angst filled that the White House was populating all of the cool billets with the players from the "Project for the New American Century" and they were all cooing and cakka-ing about 'the dominator theory' and how finally would we be free to unleash the unbriddled wealth of advanced american military technology! Some will recall the attack ads of the 2004 campaign and how evil liberals like Kerry had voted against star-wars lite and the patriot missile - those war winning state of the art technologies that were everyday, in some new way, making Iraq more iraqi.

Well golly Gosh! we've had that fun time. And probably by 2008 there will be some serious restructuring of force deployment abroad.

Granted some of us from the old school tie group of fiscally conservative republicans tried to warn you that the economic numbers made no sense back in 2000. We even had a whole lot of fun with the tongue in cheek about bombing Shang-Hai to force the Chinese to float their currency and help keep the american economy alive.

So what is there to be angry about?

Americans have had the Wonder Years and can now decide how much federal government they really want, and whether there should be any sort of 'public area' where there is a requirement to do things 'in the public interest' or should it all be privatized and go to whom ever is able to be the biggest warlord in the area.

Americans have begun to reconsider the value of 'community' and the need to start working on their own CIDG ( Civilian Irregular Defense Groups) that they can fall back on in times of emergency to protect their 'strategic suburb' from the marauding forces. Who knows they may even be able to work out a way to put together Provincial Forces in larger formations that will be able to control their whole collection of Strategic Suburbs... Why some day they may even consider that there is a need for larger political formations.

Now that we will have a whole new composition of the US Supreme Court all of this worrying about excessive and frivilous law suits will no longer be a problem either. Everyone will know that all they have to do is consult their bible and they will know what must be done. Which of course will help as the whole problem of the 'department of justice' becomes just as irrelevant as the department of Federal Entertainment Marketting Administration has been.

This is all Good! You folks really should be embracing the Fully New and Improved America!

Why who knows, americans may some day decide that it is time to make america american again!

I find it touching that you think another election cycle will fix any of this.

I didn't say that. All i said was that, at a point where some significant change is probable to occur, i'll check in again. The only thing that could possibly make a difference between now and Nov `06 would be a presidential impeachment and conviction, and the odds of that are astronomical, and i don't need to keep my ear to the ground for that.

See, if you were a real American, you'd pick yourself up by your own BOOTSTRAPS OF HATE and unleash a wave of bile that would stain Bush's ranch yellow-green for generations.

I feel the same way, actually, and I try not to read any blogs or newspapers or see FOX NEWS or any of that or I feel like I'm going to explode my head from sheer bile.

Spewing the bile does not help. It just revs up the bile motors more and more and more and the blood pressure goes up to 500/400 and I start seeing spots.

In a way, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

However, I am so sad to be a grown up now. I was just getting used to having civil rights, and this crop of wonderments.....

Ugh. Scuse me while I go destroy some office furniture.
