BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Marines said Saturday they "successfully completed Operation Matador," a weeklong hunt for insurgents along the Syrian border that left nine Marines and more than 125 insurgents dead.
Now, maybe it's just me, but this means one of two things (or possibly both):
  1. Someone actually named this sortie "Operation Killer".
  2. Someone actually named this sortie after a guy who lets the threat repeatedly run past him.
Winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people... FOR ME TO POOP ON.

Maybe they were inspired by ESPN series Tilt?

I think they named it after a broke-ass station wagon from the 70's:

In fact, there's considerable crossover between the names of military operations and commercial vehicles. Next week we'll be rounding up Afghans during Operation Bitchin' IROC.

Was "Operation Pyrrus" already taken, or was it too high-falutin' for them?

no, see, they couldn't call it "Operation Killer", because that would be too blatant and bloodthirsty. That's why they used a word from a FURRIN LANGUAGE.

besides, bullfighters are noble and romantic and cool and shit, cuz they use swords. Swords make jarheads really hard.

Maybe PETA can get on the Army's case because naming the operation Matador strengthens the culture of animal abuse.
