I've mentioned my fraternity brother Chuck Shattuck before; besides Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins, he also turned me onto Midnight Oil with their live album, Scream in Blue (one of the few live albums i enjoy), and Lindsey Buckingham's Out of the Cradle.  I consider OotC the poppiest album i own, but it's definitely a lot of fun.  Buckingham released his latest album, Under the Skin, two months ago.  You can see the video for the first single, "It Was You", at the previous link; it's a low-key, occasionally spastic affair, but the family shots are cute, and the song is sticky with its layered vocal work and simple melody.  Buckingham looks a little haggard, as if a lot more than 14 years had passed since his last solo record (although he did work a lot with Fleetwood Mac in the meantime).  He'll be playing at the Flint Center in Cupertino on January 17, and Kim and i will be there.

Ah, college, the prime breeding ground of socialists and LaRouchies, same as it was sixteen years ago.  What did the LaRouchie type spout before LaRouche, i wonder?

"What would happen if you were to connect all the ZIP codes in the US in ascending order?"

On Monday night, Crossfire lost again, this time 7-3 to Ball Monsters.  We played our best game yet, but it bears mentioning that Ball Monsters was a player down the whole game.  Lack of conditioning haunted us again; that'll work itself out the more we play.
