I just dropped HK$40 for an hour of wireless access, however much that is in real money... ah, Internet access.

At touchdown, 05:35 local time, it was 24°C and clearly very humid, as the airplane windows fogged up as soon as we slowed down.  I got a brutal tension headache as a result of an improvised neck pillow (just because the universe is a safer place if you bring a towel doesn't mean that it'll be helpful in any application).

There are many very tall, very thin skyscrapers just outside the airport.  Behind them, there are many hills that remind me of the mountains surrounding Quito.

I'm waiting for the goddamned Starbucks to open at 07:00 (in about 15 minutes).  No, wait, it looks like it's open, i see a woman with Starbucks.  Caffeine, here i come!

OK, now that i'm properly caffeinated (and got shafted by Starbucks for about 1 HK$ for paying with US$, grr), i must point out that there are posters all over the place that feature Damon Jones. Of all the big names in the NBA, why Damon Jones, i wonder?

Good news: Singapore International Airport has free Internet access.  Bad news: it's wired only, and i packed my CAT-5 in my baggage because, hey, wireless.  Who the hell offers free Internet only for wired connections?  And none of the goddamned power outlets seem to work.

eviltofu said he'd meet me here at the McDonald's.  There is none in this terminal (there is a Burger King, though, but he's not there); i think it's probable that the McDonald's, if it exists, is in the other terminal.  Which is of no use to me.  I tried to page him, but no dice.  Too bad.

It's hot and humid here, too.  And i have a long wait ahead of me.  And i'm hungry.  And the bastards in the plane gave me a mislabeled Indian vegetarian breakfast, so now i'm suffering from a chicken sausage deficit.  At least my headache's gone.  I find myself wishing i'd put my mobile phone on a world roaming plan and brought it along.

Jerome and i managed to hook up.  We left the airport and went to a mall, where we found a Japanese joint.  I had unagi with rice, miso soup and cold green tea.  We've walked around a bit and now we're in the library, chilling out.  I purchased a copy of Terry Pratchett's "A Hat Full of Sky" at the mall.

It's hot and muggy out here.  I'm not sure if the construction reminds me of Guayaquil or if the weather makes me think it does.  The human activity, though, is definitely reminiscent.  Although it's only mid-afternoon, it doesn't feel like i'm jet-lagged.  I guess the test will be when i get to Bengalūru.

I feel exotic here. It amuses and pleases me.
