"hey, 'mamma mia' ain't half bad"

$100 later... but never mind that. Thank You for Smoking is a good movie, with interesting characters, incisive satire, a sometimes too smart kid, one fatal flaw that requires a generous application of Suspension of Disbelief Ointment, and a satisfying ending. I don't think Katie Holmes is ever gonna convince people she ever grew out of being a teenager on "Dawson's Creek". And Todd Louiso plays another milquetoast (he was Dick in High Fidelity), and J. K. Simmons plays another hardassed boss (he was J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man); could they have switched roles? I wonder.
Oh, the sushi (at Yokohama) was very good. I ingratiated myself to the chef by ordering stuff that wasn't on the menu, so he gave us a free taste of albacore and later a tiny bit of tuna in some sort of sweet sauce with macadamia nuts. Very tasty.
