Feb. 9th, 2005 01:43 pmTwo weeks ago, Journey got their own star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. This week's SF Weekly featured story details the history of the band, the huge sales, the tours, the critics, and the nutso fans.
Highlights:
- “"They weren't held in high regard," says [Journey ex-manager Herbie] Herbert with a trace of long-held frustration. "They sure the fuck weren't the Police."”
- Journey found the replacement for Steve Perry “working for the Gap.”
- Rock writer Greil Marcus, inventor of the Journey Award, given annually to the worst album by a California band: “They made Eddie Money sound like Muddy Waters.”
- “"I named my daughter after Steve Perry," she says, establishing her fan credentials right off. The girl, Stephanie, waves shyly.”
- “"Frankly, I know where my bread is buttered," [Steve Augeri] says, "and the reason why I'm here in the first place is because I sounded like Steve [Perry]. And I accept that with open arms."” (emphasis mine)
