"purple's a fruit."

palecur sent me a Nat'l Repuw Online link earlier today, and on that page i encountered the following image:

I'm guessing it's meant to be some sort of dig at Mrs. Kerry, but given ketchup's status as the favorite vegetable of America's children, as bestowed by Ronald Reagan... well, it seems a suboptimal ad banner to me.

Date: 2004-08-31 10:06 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure this is a blatant lie. The ketchup is "Bottled by the Fremont Company." The Fremont company produces "private label ketchup" (PDF 536k) for resale. I'm certain that the Fremont company is cabable of bottling another manufacturer's ketchup at their facility, but it seems pretty ridiculous to me that a company headquartered in NY would be working with an OH bottler if they were manufacturing their own ketchup (with an identical ingredients list.) The Fremont company doesn't seem to say one way or the other on their website whether they make their ketchup from 100% American ingredients; I assume they do. I just take issue with the claim that W Ketchup "makes ketchup."
I'll be quiet, now.
* - according to the label on the bottle at Chili's, Heinz ketchup is bottled in the United States.
