So, Juan, Spanish for John, is pronounced as if it were an English word, and becomes "Juwan". Then someone enterprising spells the "wan" part as if it were in Spanish, which leads to "Jajuan". In a few more years, i expect to see a basketball player named "Jajuwan".

I used to know a girl named "Jujuan." She must have been born in 1960 or 1961. That was in upstate Pennsylvania, where racial insensitivity pretty much meant not making Polish jokes. My whole county had nobody of Oriental, African, or Hispanic heritage. There were a couple of doctors from Pakistan, and a few people whose ancestors migrated from Italy. That was about it for ethnic diversity.

Not only did we have to walk 12 miles through the snow to school -- uphill both ways -- we had to settle for hating one another on religious grounds, or for the distinctions between those of German, English, Czech, Polish, and Lithuanian heritage.

I have no joke here...
