it's got electrolytes!

A brownie point to who can first tell me what's wrong with this blurb on the side of the SoBe Agave Lemonade Life Water i recently bought:

Herbal Content:
Taurine and Yerba Mate
Of course, it contains no agave or lemon juice.  Mmm, mmm, good.

Taurine is not an herb?

I'd like to thank the academy, and my parents and Naomi and...

correct. It's a spice, since it comes from seeds. Though the taurine seed grows into the herb we know as Zinc Oxide.

He who controls the Taurine controls the universe!

Taurine isn't an herb, it's an acid found in bile.
Yerba Mate is an herb, but it's got a lotta caffeine.
So basically this is just sweetened caffeine and bull-bile water. There's your energy!

I looked up Taurine recently, because a friend of mine told me there was some requirement related to Taurine involving cats. Apparently indoor cats or other cats who don't kill and eat any animals will suffer taurine deficiency if not supplemented, which most cat-foods do.

So that explains why cats are so amped up between naps.

It has what plants crave?

Sure. When was the last time you saw a plant tearing across the open plains to take down an energy drink?

It was a plot point in the movie "Idiocracy."

[identity profile] devonapple.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! That happened in "Idiocracy": the dominant sports beverage company managed to successfully establish itself as a replacement for all water, and all of the crop plants started dying from the sodium poisoning.
