"aliens... we are ready for your wisdom!"

The formidable Thib has passed on this story to me. It's pretty standard stuff... until it runs off the rails in the last paragraph.

soccer report

We had a game two weeks ago against Ditech Altamar but it was at 23:25 and they begged off because they lacked enough players. We had another game scheduled against them today, and we lost, 9-4 or something like that. We had a weak team and only one sub (The Boy is recovering from the flu, our best finisher has apparently quit playing soccer, and other people flaked), and the non-goalies played poorly by running themselves ragged early, and thus allowing the other team lots of chances once we wore down. Man, losing really gets old. And i'm going to have to start taping my fingers. Feh.

my latest windmill to tilt at

English already has perfectly useful gender-neutral pronouns: it, its. Use them. Do not use they, them for singular objects. Do not use the abhorrent, artificial 'hir', 'zie', 'blim', 'gur', or whatever. Yes, people can be called 'it'. Deal with it.
