[From] Bobby Ray Miller's United Press International Stylebook (1977, p. 29):
burro, burrow  A burro is an ass.  A burrow is a hole in the ground.  As a journalist you are expected to know the difference.
More about the history of this bit of humor here.

i am a grumpy fuck

You know what?  I'm in a bad mood.  And the best way to improve my mood is to abuse other people, especially the ones i love.

Reply to this post, and i'll tell you one reason why i think you suck.  Feel free to re-post this in your journal.  Or not.  Like i give a shit.

[livejournal.com profile] tongodeon wins again

rummy meets saddam in 1983 - rummy: 'is it just me or has this been a shitty week?' saddam: 'don't get me started...'

I think that Rumsfeld, who has said he's tried to quit before but that Bush wouldn't accept his resignation, took advantage of the election results, and asked a very preoccupied Bush, "Sir, please sign this," and Bush replied, his eyes never leaving the TV, "Oh, yeah, Don. There you go."

a joke, via [livejournal.com profile] rageaway

Q: How can you tell the difference between an introvert physicist and an extrovert physicist?

A: The extrovert stares at your shoes when he talks to you.

just like bob dole

It turns out that Al Gore can be very funny (yes, i realize he probably didn't write it, but it's his delivery i'm talking about).  The bottom "read on" link leads to a transcript. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] arian1.

the whole colbert thing

Amidst the fawning of the moonbats and the shrill criticism of the wingnuts over Colbert's performance, the point is lost that satire isn't necessarily funny.  I thought Colbert's speech was really well delivered and hit all the spots it wanted.  Chutzpah, yes.  Courage, no.  Biting satire, yes.  Funny, rarely.  To claim that Colbert "was hilarious" or "bombed" is to misunderstand what he was doing; it wasn't stand-up, it was put-down.

And while one person thinks that "it's a failing prospect to attempt to direct satire at those who are beyond it," i say that perhaps he's confused about who the satire is directed at.  While Bush and the media were the subjects of the satire, that doesn't mean that they're the targets.  The target is, as always, the American people.  (Yes, i know, "But they're beyond satire!"  I disagree.)

brave smtp world

Roger Burton West in the Other Place:

Sendmail admins wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm really awfully glad I use Exim, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Postfixers and Qm*ilers. Postfix admins are stupid. They all wear green, and Qm*il admins wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to talk with Qm*il admins. And Exchange admins are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly colour. I'm so glad I use Exim.
