"Sour grapes" refers to an old fable wherein a fox tries to reach some grapes, fails, then disdains them, saying that they are probably sour anyway. Therefore, claiming someone's feelings are "sour grapes" should mean that that person is putting down something which they have actually coveted for some time. It should not be used, as so many out there do, to indicate someone's opinion or accusation is invalid because they are envious or bitter.

probably sour anyway, i guess you meant.
i've experienced this personally, having a man try to flirt with me and pick me up, and when i didn't respond, saying "eh, you're ugly anyway". It's human nature.

Yeah, i know it's human nature, i'm just saying that "sour grapes" should be used correctly. Someone recently implied that an opponent cheated and the response was "that's just sour grapes" which is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.

While we're on the subject, I'd like to point out that there is no such saying as "I had a pit in my stomach." And there is definitely no such saying as "I had a pit in the bottom of my stomach."
