I've propagated the link to soc.motss, where there has been a bit of, ahem, discussion about the matter of Warren. I am not exactly expecting that this will improve the tone of the discourse.
You know, I'm gonna kind of have to agree with your comment on his blog. The fact that there is an inaugural prayer at all is lame enough to me, I could care less who the speaker is.
I think what Obama is doing is trying to show that he's not just speaking for us lib'rels. One of the reasons that I voted for him, and why I've supported him for so long, is that he doesn't just say</i) that he plans to surround himself with different ideas. Of course this could mean that he doesn't always represent me, specifically, but it means that he's doing his best to represent everyone that needs some sort of representation.
Of course, I could be naive. It's happened before. But until his presidency actually begins and he starts fucking up, I'm going to continue believing that he's only pulling an Abe Lincoln and trying to hear all sides.
I don't see what the big deal is. Obama's said he's against gay marriage every time he's been asked; a gay-marriage issue-voter couldn't vote for either big party this past election, so they should've started on the sour grapes about 4 months ago.
The article you link to points to what must be more troubling for Obama supporters, though I'm no fan of a supporter of food-based ethanol.
Yeah, that's one of the points i made in my comment on Brust's entry. Obama and Biden both said during their campaign that they did not support gay marriage and never wavered. Everything else is weasel words.
But I suspect that a lot of GLBT community just didn't notice or pay attention to it because they were too busy pissing themselves in excitement about getting rid of Bush.
The whole thing is a non-issue. It's a completely symbolic act, it has ZERO effect on anyone's rights.
But we all know there's a huge number of very stupid people out there on all sides of politics.
