i love the brassica

To the tune of the Pixies' "U-Mass"

In Willow Glen of San José
is a garden full, full o' vegetables
We've collard greens, and mustard greens
and broccoli, and cauliflower
and brussel sprouts, and kale, too
and cabbage there, both red & green,
tur-nips — and kohl rabi
let's not forget the rutabay,
ta-baga

I love the brassica!
I love the brassica!
I love the brassica!
I love the brassica! (x2)

We slice `em up, and make a stir-fry, yeah
all those healthy greens

I love the brassica!
I love the brassica!
I love the brassica!
I love the brassica!
I love the brassica!

'Brassica' would have been an even better name for Jessica's character in the Dune parody, Doon, than 'Jazzica', which is what they used. Oh well.

I learned something new. I knew they were all in the same family - Cruciferae - but did not know they were all the same genus - brassica. And it's such a great word. Happy you to have fresh brassica in your tummy.

The disingenuous part of the song is that i don't care for most of that stuff. Well, that and we're not actually growing most of that, either.

We are growing about half of those.

You (GASP) LIED TO ME?
Sweet pickle relish! My tenuous hold on reality has been rammed like a tree full of ripe almonds. You do not love brassica? You do not crave your cabbages and brussel sprouts, your broccoli and cauliflower? Hold the butter and caraway seeds, Martha!

I must go away and reconstruct my mind . . .

Er, what would you like?

Too bad you didn't plant any rapunzels (http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/r/rampio03.html), or I could beat that joke to death.

Actually, if you ever have too much of anything, let me know, and I will happily pick them and take them home. I'm on the waiting list for a community garden spot in the Mission, but it might take a while.

I've never heard of rampion before. I need to get some seeds, because now I'm curious.

I've never seen it or eaten it. I'm curious, too. Let me know if you find seeds.
