when i say "pitchers and catchers", i'm not talking about what you think i'm talking

Rule changes: Batters must keep at least one foot in the box throughout an at-bat or it's a strike; with the bases empty, pitchers must not wait more than 12 seconds between pitches (once he has the ball) or it's a ball; no more stepping into a dugout to catch a foul ball; and no more tie games that are suspended because of weather being played over — now, they'll be resumed from the point of stoppage.
I fully approve of these rule changes.  I only hope they're enforced consistently.  Play ball!

Is that an official rule change? Sweet.

Shortened time between pitches? How on earth will they manage to spit and adjust their athletic cups 50 times, now that there are these draconian limits?! OUTRAGE

(actually HOORAY and about damn time on these new rules)

I am by no means a baseball fan, but

12 seconds seems awfully quick to me, especially if the pitcher disagrees with the signalled pitch. I'd want a whole lot more padding if I were a catcher.

If there's nobody on base, how much shaking off are you gonna do? 12 seconds is plenty... watch a game and count them off yourself.

Are these official, or did John Shea make clever use of the date?

Hmm, that would really piss me off. They're pretty plausible. And the other stuff on that page (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/04/01/SPGM9OVO5S1.DTL) is real...

Holy Religious Persecution...

How can americans survive if their National Sport is so grotesquely tampered with by this sort of Excessive MicroManagement....

WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING ABOUT!!!

Baseball is a Core Part of Our Religious American Cultural Heritage!!! It should not be tampered with by evey whim of the leftist leaning shrill and hysterical radical extremists!!!!

WHERE IS YOUR CULTURAL SENSITIVITY...

The games are def. too long, but mostly because guys like your boy barry are so juiced up that there are a million walks, home runs and pitching changes.

Somehow i don't think it's the juicers' fault that the pitchers can't find the damn plate. As for pitching changes, blame LaRussa.

Ah, LaRussa, the ultimate micro-manager. Here in Philly we have Charlie Manuel, the Anti-LaRussa.

Do you want to do some kind of Phillies/ Giants wager this year? I think the phillies are better, but we could still do something.

Eh, i'm more of an A's fan, and i fully expect the Phillies to outwin the Giants.
