On one side of the street, a health food store.  Across from it, a donut shop.

Perfect!

It's poor planning like this that is going to lead to part of California falling off into the sea! Don't they know you need to balance both sides of the street?

Health food stores tend to have the best potato chips.

You're too far afield, good sir. Right in your neighborhood: A POPEYE'S fried chicken next to a CURVES that used to be a LOW CARB SUPERMARKET.

But then again, anyone in Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig will point out that their storefronts are ALWAYS adjacent to donut shops or worse. It's like some kind of secret zoning rule to make the citizenry fat and complacent, gorging themselves on delicious fried chicken, red beans and rice, jambalaya, biscuits, and...

Wait, what were we talking about? I was too busy putting honey and butter on this here biscuit.

My friend in Sheffield lives near a health food store with the rather suspect name of "Your Nuts". There are a couple of pubs and an Indian restaurant within a hundred yards of said store.

Mmmmmm.... Donuts!

for a long time had a "nutrition" store (a local store, not Aegean Sea (http://www.wordsmith.org/board/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=80911&page=5&fpart=8&vc=1) a GNC, but that same odd combination of health foods and growth hormone products) almost directly across from a smoke shop. The nutrition store turned into a weaving studio, and the weird Israeli shoe store moved over to where the smoke shop used to be.

So is that a store for weird Israeli shoes, a shoe store run by a weird Israeli, or a weird store that sells Israeli shoes?

possibly all three

Definitely a weird little store with weird little shoes, owned by weird little Israelis. I don't know if any of their shoes are from Little Israel, though.

Ever notice how Baskin-Robbins stores seem to plant themselves in the same shopping centers as gyms?

My favorite is the one in Campbell next door to a non-chain gym. It even has a drive-thru! (The ice cream place, not the gym.)
