In light of your barry bonds commentary, and the kenny rogers world series controversy, I present:

The history of cheating in baseball. 1885-2006.

Pitcher: I just figured out if I put some stuff on this ball, it does funny things to get guys out.
Batter: If I put cork inside my bat, I can hit the ball harder.
Pitcher: If I scuff this ball, it will make good breaks.
Batter: If I put pine tar on this bat, it will be stronger.
Pitcher: If I put pine tar on this ball, it does funny things to get guys out.
Batter: If I crowd the plate, I can hit the ball better.
Pitcher: If I throw inside, the batter will not crowd the plate.
Batter: If I take anabolic steroids, human growth hormone, and testosterone, I can hit the ball harder.

Looks like baseball has come full circle!

And as far as bonds breaking the record, I think I would prefer if he did not. It kind of sickens me to look at the home run leaders of 1995-2005 and see what drugs have done to our sport.
