soccer report; your daily recap
Didn't watch any games today due to late night soccer; Centavo lost to Umbros 5-3. One goal bounced off the wall, off my back, and in. Another came when a defender tried to clear and kicked the ball into my shoulder and in. Our team's finishing was rather ugly and reminded me of the finishing of too many teams in the World Cup. The curious may wish to come to our games and cheer us on.
Argentina 6 - Serbia & Montenegro 0: the rout of the Cup so far. By all accounts, the Argies played very well, although the red card a Serbian player received helped them dominate even more and score their last three goals (their current boy wonder Messi was involved in at least two of them).
Netherlands 2 - Ivory Coast 1: another hard loss for the Africans. That's why they call it the Group of Death, folks (although the US's group ain't no party, either).
Mexico 0 - Angola 0: Angola hung on with 10 men to steal a point. Mexico has to face Portugal now and get at least a point; otherwise, they'll have to hope that Angola-Iran works to their advantage. I caught the second half of this game on XM as i drove home, and the last few minutes on TV. The Mexican players say they're not worried at all; i don't believe them.
Also, because it bears noting, Peter Crouch's late goal against T&T was scored with a dirty foul. T&T got jobbed. That's soccer.

I doubt that the last Ivory Coast game is going to be worth watching -- the Serbs really were woeful last night, can't see them putting up much defense against anyone else for a while.

I missed Ivory Coast's goal against Netherlands. Worth noting that was the first ball to get past their goalie in ten games, an accomplishment for a lower-ranked team.

Argentina are looking ominously good, considering that the likes of Messi and Aimar aren't even first choices: that's a lot of creativity to have in reserve.

That Peter Crouch foul was hard to spot even on the replays, imagine how hard it would be for a referee. Too bad, though, they deserved better. Of course, an English victory means a higher chance for Sweden to get through.

That's cool. Your commentary on the WM is much appreciated by one reader at least. It's much easier to understand, and probably less biased, than what I get on German TV here.

Today, after emailing I will watch soccer and pack.
