back to school

I enrolled in the UC Davis Extension Winemaking Certificate program back in November.  The first class, Introduction to Winemaking, started in January and finished two weeks ago.  We got our grades today, and i got an A-.  Whee!  Onwards!

Too much is never enough!

Congratulations! I'm slightly envious.

I'm one of those people who get obsessed from time to time, and I had a wonderful 2000 Margaux about a month ago that I just can't stop thinking of. It was so good - just a touch of fruit, and then all structure and tannins for a long, long finish.

So I'm thinking about wine a lot these days, that's all. Have you had anything good lately? There is an Argentinian cab called 'Aleph' that the wine bar down the street is serving; I would commend it to your attention if you can find a bottle of the 2003.

An Argentinian wine called 'Aleph'? When you drink it, does it let you see every point in the universe?

Today we had a bottle of Wild Horse's Cheval Sauvage (their reserve line) 2002 Pinot Noir. So very smooth and delicious. Then we opened a 500 ml bottle of Tierra Salvaje 2002 Monastrell Dulce for dessert, to pair with the chocolate cake Thib and Billy brought. In between those, Kim and i had some of the Cline 2002 Ancient Vines Mourvèdre that i opened the other day.

Other recent wines include an `02 Frog's Leap Zinfandel and an `03 Opolo Grand Rouge (71% Counoise, 24% Syrah, 5% Petite Sirah). I've sure been drinking a lot lately...

A good Pinot Noir-mmm. My favorite wine-paired with a tender London Broil and a really good Caesar salad-with home-made croutons.

And now I better undertand why that bottle you helped me pick out was so damn good for the price. Congratulations.

A _MINUS_?!?

A _MINUS_ don't win no gold medals, buster!

(j/k, nice job)

Yeah. Just think of how well he could have done if he had actually studied.

I don't like throwing those particular stones, what with the glass house I live in.

Nice one - I guess there's a new career to consider if you don't want to be a sysadmin anymore.

He's a sysadmin! He's a student! Together, they drink wine!

Pretty nifty.

Maybe you could have done a paper on "garbage disposals and hard cider production" for extra credit.

Congrats! Take a peek at [livejournal.com profile] wine_pro. If you decide to join, I imagine I'm not the only one who would enjoy hearing more about what the class was like.
