the polyphonic spree - the beginning stages of...

This is their debut album, and i like it a bit less than their followup, Together We're Heavy; the songs aren't as well developed, and some of them sound like they could have been demos for songs on TWH.  The sound is very similar; the music is mostly cheerful, joyous, and uplifting "choral symphonic pop/rock".  The final track, "Section 10 (A Long Day)" is 36'30" and consists of monotonic droning by frontman Tim DeLaughter.  Dumb.

I bought the CD used at Rasputin Music and when i opened the case, there was a four-track promo disc under the album's disc that contained remixes of two of the album tracks and two live tracks. It was a nice surprise; i'm not usually a fan of remixes, but these were OK.

By the way, their new album, The Fragile Army, is coming soon, and you can follow their Weblog at [livejournal.com profile] thefragilearmy.
