wine review

The stupendous [livejournal.com profile] anotherdave gifted me a bottle of Van Der Heyden 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon. The bouquet is intense and almost wants to suggest that the wine is fortified. The flavor is great up front, smooth yet complex, but it seems to flag a bit at the end. Also, we've had trouble pairing it with food or dark chocolate; it seems to actively fight with the other flavors, leaving the food a mess, the chocolate dull, and the wine acrid. It's definitely a curious trait. VDH also boasts a late harvest cabernet sauvignon which purchase i am greatly awaiting.

I'm totally buying you some bottles of 25 cent Chinese wine

Just bring a bottle or two when you come to SF.

VDH is my favorite winery anywhere. I've got a bunch of their stuff in my cellar that I never drink because I always think I should save it a little longer.
