eh, OK

RotK was not bad for a sequel. They're really milking this whole hobbit thing, though. They'll probably get funding for a fourth movie where Merry, Pippin, Sam, and Gimli sail to the Grey Havens to save the elves from evil orc pirates.

Milking which hobbit thing? The bit where the hobbits are the ones who get to Mount Doom? The bit where a hobbit stabs the Nazgul leader first? The bit where Bilbo and Frodo go to the Grey Havens? All of those are in the book.

Also in the book, in the handy timeline in the appendix to RotK: Sam, after the death of Rosie, also went over the sea; Legolas and Gimli as well, after the death of Aragorn (crowned 'Elessar').

Expletives, man, I'm telling you. Imagine how much better it would have been with everybody cursing like sailors.

"You'd best start believing in ghost stories, Mr. Aragorn, You're in one!"

Thanks to an acquaintance of mine, I will never be able to watch the Paths of the Dead sequence again without thinking that.

(They call 'em archetypes for a reason, you know. I've decided that the House of the Stewards represents the archetypal dysfunctional family.)

Aggh! Be very careful what you joke about! There's the whole History of Middle-Earth 12-volume set for them to steal stories from! Especially if Christopher Tolkien can make any more money out of his father's background notes....

He and Brian Herbert can both rot in hell, damn their greedy hands.
