Pandora has given me more music to enjoy, which is great, but it's also given me a lot of the reviews from the All Music Guide, which ranges from the interesting to the banal, from all of which the most salient fact emerged: Stephen Thomas Erlewine is an enormous wanker.

I thought Ted Rall's introduction for Dog Killer was kind of overblown, but I guess Bob the Angry Flower, like the internet, really is an uncensored representation of the true human condition.

to know Erlewine was the asshat who made ridiculous pronouncements like "that Genesis returned to their art rock roots on Calling All Stations." He reminds me of that guy Chuck who always showed up uninvited with friends of mine and was incontrovertibly convinced he knew everything about conducting from waving his arms in front of recordings in his living room.

Erlewine is the nephew of Allmusic's founder Michael Erlewine, and the son of Dan Erlewine, perhaps the world's most famous guitar tech. (IMO, How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great is one of the greatest DIY books ever published.) Michael and Dan were in a few folk bands together in the 50's and 60's.

So, yeah; nepotism.
