say hello to my middle finger

In today's departmental meeting, the interim IT Ops director said he wanted to curtail all telecommuting next week; i asked, "What exactly would we gain by doing so?" A gentleman whom i fondly call "Captain NT", whose job involves babying the M$ Exchange and sendmail systems and is not directly part of my organizational hierarchy, responded, "You should do it because he asked you to." Interim Director Boy then proceeded to explain how it's important that IT Operations members be there for our product launch next week (what kind of idiot launches a product the Monday after Thanksgiving weekend?), then added, "Also, what [Captain NT] said also stands."

This really is sticking in my craw because i, effectively, have no one to turn to for support; my boss is out on sabbatical, and his boss the ex-Director was supposed to stick around until mid-January but instead left last week, which is why i'm stuck with Interim Director Boy. Kim said i should just put my head down and work, and i agree, but... it sticks. I will not tolerate "do as you're told" from someone who isn't my boss, and if it happens to come from someone who, by dint of circumstance, IS my boss, then i'll be inspired to do as little work as possible.

so who exactly is your boss while your boss is out? and i don't get why you, being not of that chain of command have to do anything they say. i vote you go "neener neener" and just do your job. Besides, evaluating the worth of that sorta action seems like a worthy question.

If he's not your boss, fuck him. And go telecommute.

It's a bit late, but thanks anyway. I did call in sick on Wednesday that week, though. Did i mention how much of my time was wasted that week, especially due to "launch update meetings" that never occurred? Bah.
