the craziest goddamned thing ever

"It will take time to sink in... but this is an absolutely once in a life time thing. They say ignorance is bliss, and now that I know how hard this is, I would never consider crossing the Sahara on foot again."

Wow. I don't even have words to describe just how insane that is!

Good ghod.

I thought they were hiking across the Sahara, not fucking running!

Holy shit.

Bonkers. But awesome, too.

Every time I hear about something like this I feel compelled to mention Jesper Olsen (http://www.worldrun.org/). He ran across North America, Northern Europe, Asia, and Australia in about 22 months (2004-05). For the bulk of his trip he carried his supplies with him. One of the contemporaneous message board postings about him mentions that while crossing Canada he often slept in a tent on the side of the road and ate canned spaghetti.

I have no joke here, I just like saying "training secrets of ultra-long-distance runners."

Well, Christ no!

Next time he'll do it on his hands, obviously.

I hope they had enough bandaids for their nipples.

Holy crap! That's... um... impressive and insane.

Good cause, though.

Think of all the stuff you could get done if you did nothing but work towards your goal(s) for 111 days.

I mean, you couldn't make old wine or sharp cheddar cheese, but you could pick up a couple of languages, take a crack at Linear B, climb the highest mountain *very casually,* or catch up on all the reading you ever thought you'd wanted to accomplish in your lifespan.

Motivation is important, of course, but nobody's going to give you a big prize for bugging out of the middle of the desert, so you might as well keep on running; I gotta figure out how to apply that to real life.

First thing you should do is pick your goals carefully, i think.
