gubernatorial shenanigans

According to the latest information from the California Secretary of State's office, Gallagher is in, Gary Coleman is not. Cruz Bustamante is in, but John Garamendi is not (thanks to some very convincing pressure applied by a California AFL-CIO muck-a-muck). Ahnuld's and Bill Simon's filings are not yet complete. There's still paperwork to be gone through, so this might change tomorrow or Monday, but as things stand right now, we'll have at least 48 candidates on the recall ballot, assuming all completed filings are certified by the SoS. Oh boy oh boy.

It's actually worse in Australia - in Australia there's preferential voting. Meaning you don't just put an X in the box ... you number the candidates in your order of preference, from 1 to, ooh, whatever number of people feel like running this time.

Actually, that's a style of voting (instant runoff) that many Americans would love to see implemented. If nothing else, it would've made the Florida 2000 shenanigans much easier to resolve.

I hope there's a televised debate with all candidates.
