el trabajo dignifica al hombre

I have a job again.  I am immensely relieved.  I am also very eager to start, not merely because it's a salary, but because i'm genuinely impressed by the people i will be working with and for.

Hey. Congratulations.

[identity profile] schwa242.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. And rock, rock on.

Go rone! Go rone! Unh! *dancedance*

Ya know, I've come to think that may be the most important thing in jobseeking.

Congrats!

Congrats!

So it's just me, Tom Kraemer, and Kibo in the "Work Is For Suckers" club?

Except Kibo gets a hell of a lot of freelance jobs, I think.

Congrats on the new job!

[identity profile] sanspoof.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
And me. But I'm overspecialized.

Good for you, rone.

Hurrah, you

[identity profile] mouseworks.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear this. Glad you were able to get all those Adobe products out the door before leaving, too.

I'll take your word for it, but after reading their webpage, I still have no idea what their product does. They also used "webinar".

Oh, and congratulations!

[identity profile] doctroid.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations!

Only... "maximize your relationship capital"? "webinar"? "leverage the organization's collective relationships"? Sheesh!

Okay, to be fair, that last one wasn't from a Visible Path person, but they did put that quote on their front page.

[identity profile] asienieizi.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome! That's great! Me next, right? Me next!

[identity profile] anavolena.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
congratulations!

[identity profile] wisn.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats.

Out of genuine curiosity -- can you concisely describe what Visible Path does/makes/sells (all parameters do not have to be referenced) without the use of proprietarily-coined phraseology?

[identity profile] nothings.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hooray job!

Seconded on a need for a readable summary of what they do. It sounds very dot-com 2.0 -ish.

Yay!

[identity profile] mrbalihai.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations! However, I'm counting you to hunt down whoever decided to use the word 'webinar' on their homepage, and give them an atomic wedgie.

[identity profile] madmerle.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats and best of luck - sounds like it's a good gig!

I suspect your chatability [read: time to burn] will decrease now. Boo hoo!

Congratulations! I'm going to take you at your word that the job rocks, because I'm not sure how much I want to know about "securing trusted introductions" and "revealing key relationships in real time."

Congratulations, Rone. I hope that this one will work out over the long haul.

I attended a conference on social mapping of organizations, and one of the presenters played the oldest trick in the book on me. (I, stupidly, volunteered). They showed me a company's social network, and I had to pick who the president was. I chose the one with the greatest number of relationships. That turned out to be the guy in the mailroom. The president had everything filtered to him by three V.P.'s; he had one of the lowest numbers of connections on the entire graph. Hopefully those whizzy equations flying around in the Flash demo mean that the company has experts on board.

[identity profile] internebbish.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. That's a great story. What was the name of the conference?
thedarkages: (Default)

[personal profile] thedarkages 2006-06-02 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly don't remember. It was held by one of the UCs circa 1995.

I have a mug someplace. My wife probably "reorganized" it ten years ago, but I'll post to this thread if I can dig it up.

Son of a gun! My wife found the mug. The University of California Electronic Commerce Workshop, held at UCLA on April 3-4, 1997; there was a track on "social networks," and that's what I attended.

Freakishly prescient.

Well, back then, the term was a lot broader than it is today. Firefly was doing some very interesting things in 1996, which basically became Amazon "recommendation" technology; the conference had a session on that under the same rubric. The keynote session, where I made the mistake with the network diagram, was, indeed, spookily prescient; oddly enough, the graphs were on transparencies.

Dun-dun dun-dun dun, squeak! Dun-dun dun-dun dun, squeak!

(That's "conga-rats", at least to the lame grey cells between my ears.)

Aptly timed!

My now former officemate (http://vardissakheli.livejournal.com/64931.html) started his new job today. Very weird going in to an empty office and having so many people stop by asking where he is, especially when we still haven't been told the complete list of people affected by this "redeployment."

YAY

Woooooooooo!

From the comments so far, this sounds like some kind of automated incarnation of Dunn and Bradstreet.

Very good! Congratulations!

Good. Now go earn a shitload of money, get some vacation and come over so I can show you around the wineries.

So, no time for watching live World Cup games, then?
(Congratulations, anyway.)
