ten years ago
Sometime during the final week of February 1996, i got up from my tech support pod desk, caffeinated to the gills and stressed to the eyeballs. I picked up Opie, my aluminum baseball bat, familiar, and totem, and i started walking around the halls of Best Internet, twirling my bat and gibbering. I walked past the office manager's desk, which was outside the CEO's office, and genially said, "Hi!" She divined that the CEO might not want a drug-crazed, armed maniac walking around his office, so she got up and steered me away. She distracted me with a compliment, which so pleased me that i asked her out on a date. She accepted, and that night, i kissed her and later got into her pants.
It's easy to say that it's all gone by in a blink, but i think it's as wrong as saying that the relationship has been easy. Relationships are hard work, and saying that your relationship is easy is selling short your effort and your partner's effort. Ten years didn't blink by; they've been lovingly spent, a day at a time. It hasn't all been great, but it damn near has, and that's the best feeling in the world.
Love you, baby. Here's to the next ten.

I was there...
I interviewed him the year before this incident for a support-type gig, where we initially passed on him because (get this) we judged that he was "too bitter". Haha, we were sooo naive back then...
