they're calling my number

Gotta report to the court tomorrow for jury duty.  What a pain.

I always get called and always answer the same way to the important question, "what's you're favorite tv show?"

I respond with "law and order" and they always send me home. :)

(I've never even seen an episode in my life.)

Why does that answer send you home? Do lawyers have the same reaction to L&O that cops have to CSI?

That would be my assumption. I heard about doing this from a friend and its good as gold every time I've tried it. :)

That's what you get for voting, schmuck!

Obviously one too many times watching L&O...

I'm actually annoyed that I've yet to be asked.

Is it the same up north as it is here in LA County?

For us it's one day/one trial, whichever lasts the longest. I've had friends elsewhere on call for a week, even if they get on a panel for one trial that ends up in a day or two.

For me, getting put on a criminal trial is a bit of a waste - my wife is a prosecutor, so usually I have to just wait until they get to questioning us individually before I'm thanked and dismissed, hopefully late enough in the day so that I don't get put on a different panel.

Good luck getting your desired result.

Goddamn it, we need jurists like you. Besides, you're too damn clever to really get picked, so enjoy it.

I have mixed feelings about jury duty (FWIW, it seems to work slightly differently here, in that you go to the court and go sit in a jury pool room for a week, hoping not very much happens). Still, I haven't, yet, been called up. I'd probably view it as a chance to catch up on reading (or writing silly code, if bringing a laptop is allowed), though.

We can also be caleld up for "coroner's jury" duty. Not entirely sure what that is, though.

I honestly don't mind at all being called for jury duty. Gives me a day to get a novel read and relax, really.

WAAAAAH!

That's what you get for being a U.S. citizen! Hah! Thought you could just take the rights and avoid the responsibilities?

Sucker.

I always say "Teletubbies".

If you really want to get out of it, you could always try answering questions in Spanish...
