[livejournal.com profile] palecur sent me a Nat'l Repuw Online link earlier today, and on that page i encountered the following image:

W: AMERICA'S KETCHUP

I'm guessing it's meant to be some sort of dig at Mrs. Kerry, but given ketchup's status as the favorite vegetable of America's children, as bestowed by Ronald Reagan... well, it seems a suboptimal ad banner to me.

I hate to tell you this, but W Ketchup is a real, Republican ketchup. Read about it and weep at

This is the first Republican-affiliated (or Republican-shilling, whatever) product to acknowledge that Americans are dying in Iraq.

I anticipate Osama Bin Laden Pickled Relish soon.

The thing I find funny about Wketchup is that the website goes on and on about how THIS ketchup is made 100% in the United States, unlike those probably French ketchups that have 57 foreign factories*, and even goes so far as to say: "Founded in 2004, W Ketchup™ is a private company that makes ketchup in America solely from ingredients grown in the USA."

I'm pretty sure this is a blatant lie. The ketchup is "Bottled by the Fremont Company." The Fremont company produces "private label ketchup" (PDF 536k) for resale. I'm certain that the Fremont company is cabable of bottling another manufacturer's ketchup at their facility, but it seems pretty ridiculous to me that a company headquartered in NY would be working with an OH bottler if they were manufacturing their own ketchup (with an identical ingredients list.) The Fremont company doesn't seem to say one way or the other on their website whether they make their ketchup from 100% American ingredients; I assume they do. I just take issue with the claim that W Ketchup "makes ketchup."

I'll be quiet, now.

* - according to the label on the bottle at Chili's, Heinz ketchup is bottled in the United States.

Yes, but the worrying thing is that they may well vote.

Sigh. Not the ketchup thing (http://www.straightdope.com/columns/040716.html) again.

A welcome link. That still doesn't absolve these people from calling the president a disgusting, sweet-and-sour condiment.
