notes from las vegas

At the Rio, where we saw Penn & Teller, there was a Starbucks just outside the theater entrance that charged $3 for a solo espresso, but $2.55 for an Americano (espresso plus water).

I presume they have great hourly rates.

Don't remember where i saw this: "Understanding is the reward of faith. Therefore, seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand." I guess that means that if you don't understand, you aren't believing hard enough. Or something. And here i've been thinking that scientific method thing was the coolest...

I saw an ad for Benzene Casual Clothing. When it comes to wearing hip threads, i'll choose the ones named after a carcinogenic solvent, every time.

A friend of Kim's told us we should have lunch at a Greek restaurant that was in Bakersfield, and that we couldn't miss it. Well, we couldn't find the damn thing, so we had to stop and ask people for directions. We were led to the Crazy Greek, where the food was decidedly mediocre (i was, at least, entertained by the menu, which contained the words, "Food graphics illustrated on this menu are conceptual and do not depict actual food items served at Crazy Greek."). As we continued on the trip, we hit Baker, which has billboards touting the world-famous Mad Greek restaurant. Bakersfield, Crazy Greek... Baker, Mad Greek... BAH.

If you tasted the water in Kitchener-Waterloo, you wouldn't find the price difference surprising.

On faith...

A conversation at work today:

Cow orker: I have faith in your ability to develop a work-up for that reaction.

Me: Ah, faith. That'd be an irrational belief which is not supported by the available evidence.

C.: As I said, I have faith...

Conversations like that just give me the warm fuzzies.

Benzene Casual Clothing

Methylate your benzene clothes, then nitrate 'em, for TNT Casual Wear. It's marginally better than methylating your DNA.

Your friends probably meant to send you to the Mad Greek in BAKER, not the other place in Bakersfield. The Mad Greek is actually quite good and is kind of a pilgrimage stop for people on the LA-Vegas route.

Er, yes, that's what i point out there at the end.

Well, duh. I have got an extreme short attention span this week due to extreme multitasking.

That makes sense, doesn't it? Or do you mean the solo espresso is clearly the better bargain?

You are in Las Vegas, and I am teh jealous.

It doesn't make sense to me, because if you take a shot of espresso that's worth $3 and add water, how does it lose 45 cents' worth?

I am no longer in Las Vegas, and i'm quite glad. I'm just not a Vegas kind of guy.
